Milwaukee Film & Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra have partnered to present two truly special presentations of Metropolis as part of the 2010 Milwaukee Film Festival featuring live musical accompaniment by the world-renowned Alloy Orchestra.
Called “the best in the world at accompanying silent films” by
Roger Ebert, Alloy Orchestra is a
three-man musical ensemble that works with an outrageous assemblage of peculiar objects to
produce soulful music. The special
presentations of Metropolis with the Alloy Orchestra are a benefit for
Milwaukee Film and the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra.
The most influential of all silent films, this astounding new version of Fritz Lang’s visionary masterpiece
includes 25 minutes of newly discovered, digitally restored footage. By some
miracle, a near-complete cut of the
original film was found in Buenos Aires in 2008. The subsequent reconstruction of Metropolis
represents both one of the most significant
film restoration projects in cinema history and the cinematic event of the
year.
“A MASTERPIECE OF VISIONARY SILENT CINEMA…one of the strangest, most fascinating films ever made, a futuristic nightmare that is both sublime in its grandeur and remarkably intimate in its emotions. Just about every science-fiction movie you can think of pays tribute to its influence, but to date none has matched its strangeness or its prophetic power.”—A.O. Scott, The New York Times
Special ticket prices apply for these screenings $50 (center), $30 (wing) and $15 (balcony), and NO PASS HOLDERS WILL BE ADMITTED without a ticket.
