Planning the Opening Night Party for the 3rd Annual Milwaukee Film Festival is a huge honor and having the help of the creative-minded David Caruso of Dynamic Events, Bartolotta Catering & Events at Pier Wisconsin and Discovery World guarentees it will be a night to remember.

 

This year we're really celebrating the Milwaukee Film Festival by highlighting individual films playing throughout. As an homage to the Spotlight film, Gainsbourg: A Heroic Life, six incredibly talented Milwaukee musicians created Sex & Cigarettes, a one-night-only band playing tribute to the iconic music of the 1960’s French legend, Serge Gainsbourg. Our Artistic & Executive Director Jonathan Jackson is a huge Gainsbourg fan so this one was for him. The Brew City Bombshells Burlesque perform their sass and brass--a nod to the Closing Night film, On Tour.

 

With the festival’s Passport: India program in mind, we booked New York-based DJ Rekha who closes the night with her blend of traditional Bhangra music of South Asia and hip-hop beats. Both DJ Rekha and Sex & Cigarrettes perform in the 88NINE Radio Milwaukee Sound Travels Tent, where Marcus Doucette will also spin 1960’s music originating from France to India.

 

The Pilot House gets a slight makeover with sleek furnishings provided by CORT Event Furnishings for the "Grolsch Filmworks Lounge." DJ Dori Zori from WMSE 91.7FM hosts soundtrack trivia and on display (and available for sale) will be limited edition screen printed posters made my some of our favorite Milwaukee artists for the films Outrage, Louder Than A Bomb, Nostalgia for the Light, Gainsbourg: A Heroic Life, Robot, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, The Interrupters and Valley Maker.

 

We have a ton more greatness in store for evening, including music from DJ Madhatter of 88NINE Radio Milwaukee, a Beauty Bar by Neroli, a red carpet by Tap Milwaukee and a Trailers Preview Theater with popcorn. If that doesn't convince you to attend our Opening Night Party next Thursday, September 22 from 8:30-1am at Discovery World, then the delicious complimentary appetizers from Bartolotta Catering & Events and two free drinks from MillerCoors and Bacardi should!
